Ischemia – Modified albumin by albumin cobalt binding test: a false myth or reality

چکیده

Abstract Scientific knowledge should be based on evidence. However, some scientific studies can carried out without sufficient And these may mislead subsequent studies. Ischemia-modified albumin (IMA) is a relatively newly proposed biomarker. It used not only for myocardial ischemia but also other pathological conditions in the body. IMA commonly measured by cobalt binding (ACB) assay. ACB simple colorimetric assay performed patients’ sera. claimed that because of or ischemia-reperfusion, molecular structure N-terminus human serum changed and therefore it cannot bind metal ions added into reaction mixture react with dithiothreitol to give brown color. The clinical performance poor has strong correlation biomarkers. There are many analytical uncertainties as well. Despite uncertainties, still research Therefore theory questioned. In this opinion paper, we discussed uncertainties. conclusion, there insufficient evidence existence essentially measures concentration. interfering factors Therefore, measurement any condition useless effort.

Albumin Cobalt Binding or Ischaemia Modified Albumin: a Test of Great Prognostic Value in Malaria

BACKGROUND We evaluated albumin cobalt binding (ACB) assay also known as Ischaemia Modified Albumin (IMA) assay as a prognostic marker for severe malaria in a medical college setting. METHODS Consecutive adult patients admitted with both vivax and falciparum malaria were evaluated with ACB assay at the time of admission. Detailed work up and individual patient directed management were institu...

Ischemia-modified albumin and myocardial ischemia.

Sbarouni et al. (1) reported on “Ischemia-Modified Albumin [IMA] in Relation to Exercise Stress Testing [EST]” in a previous issue of the Journal. Although the investigators found significant differences in the IMA values at baseline, peak exercise, and after EST, there was no relation between the IMA changes and the result of the EST. The researchers stated that changes in IMA levels do not re...

Ischemia-modified albumin in ischemic disorders.

We have read with interest the article by Dr. Koichi Akutsu et al., who highlighted that currently available laboratory markers are not sensitive enough to detect the presence of mesenteric ischemia. This conclusion was supported by evidence that creatine phosphokinase, lactate dehydrogenase, and lactate levels were negative. However, there are emergent diagnostic opportunities that might enabl...

Albumin cobalt binding (ACB) test: its role as a novel marker of acute coronary syndrome.

The biochemical marker of myocardial ischemia is detected prior to the development of myocardial necrosis, i.e. a novel biochemical evaluation based on human serum albumin binding to cobalt, a transitional metal. The evaluation is known as Albumin Cobalt Binding (ACB) Test. ACB Test is applied to detect the presence of Ischemia Modified Albumin (IMA), an albumin which has altered binding capaci...
